About this species

A remarkable amphibious goby of Korea's southwest tidal mudflats, hopping and skating across the mud at low tide. It grazes on surface algae and microorganisms, defending small mud territories with raised fins. Traditionally caught with special long hook-and-line flicking techniques, it is a regional delicacy.

Barred mudskipper (Periophthalmus modestus, 말뚝망둥어) coexists on Korean mudflats and climbs vegetation, but lacks the vivid blue spots and has a smaller dorsal fin.
