About this species

A hardy, widely distributed cyprinid revered as a sport fish in Europe and a food and ornamental fish in Asia. It roots along muddy bottoms for invertebrates, plants and seeds. Boilies, corn and dough baits with groundbait are the standard European approach.

Similar Species

Scales covering the entire body distinguish common carp from mirror carp, which has a few large scales, and leather carp, which has almost none.
