Greater Amberjack

About this species

A bruising, deep-bodied jack of warm seas, notorious for punishing runs toward reef and wreck structure. It schools over deep reefs and pinnacles, crushing baitfish and squid. Heavy jigging and live baits dropped over structure test tackle and angler alike.

Similar Species

Distinguished from banded rudderfish and lesser amberjack by the diagonal amber body stripe from eye to tail and its much larger adult size exceeding 80 cm.
