About this species

A stocky, dark-barred perch endemic to clear Korean mountain streams, a fierce little ambush predator. It defends rocky territories, darting out to seize insects, small fish and crustaceans. Small minnow lures and worm baits worked around boulders draw aggressive strikes.

Similar Species

Korean mandarin fish (쏘가리, Siniperca scherzeri) is much larger with bold irregular blotches on a golden-yellow body; aucha perch is smaller with dark horizontal bars on a brownish body.
