Olive Flounder

About this species

A large left-eyed flatfish that is Korea's premier sashimi flounder and a mainstay of aquaculture, known as gwangeo. It lies buried on sandy bottoms ambushing small fish and shrimp. Live-bait bottom fishing and jigging over sand near reefs are the usual methods.

Similar Species

Left-eyed flatfish; distinguished from right-eyed flounders and halibut by eye position on the left side; from the closely related bastard halibut by its prominent dark spots and wider gape.
