About this species

A tall, silver jack considered the most challenging of the flats species to catch on fly. It sips crabs on shallow flats yet spooks at the slightest error. A perfectly presented crab fly to a tailing fish is one of angling's great achievements.

Excellent firm white flesh, but most anglers practice catch-and-release given the species' difficulty to catch and trophy status.

Similar Species

High, sickle-shaped dorsal and anal fins, a dark blotch at the pectoral base, and a deeper body with a more concave tail distinguish permit from Florida pompano.
