About this species
A round, silvery, deeply compressed fish highly valued in Korean and East Asian cuisine for its tender flesh. It drifts in schools over soft bottoms, feeding on jellyfish, plankton and small organisms. Mostly a commercial net species, it is only rarely caught on rod and line.

Rarely caught on rod; when it occurs, small sabiki rigs or lightweight jigs drifted at mid-depth near known feeding grounds may take them.
Edibility & Taste
Outstanding; one of East Asia's finest white-fleshed fish, equally excellent steamed, pan-fried, or braised with soy and ginger.
Similar Species
Chinese silver pomfret (Pampus chinensis) is very similar but slightly rounder with a less pronounced forked tail; field separation requires close examination.
