Acanthocybium solandri
A sleek, blue-barred mackerel among the fastest fish in the sea, capable of blistering runs. It slashes through bait schools near drop-offs, seamounts and current lines. High-speed trolling with skirted lures and wire leaders is the standard offshore tactic.
0 – 100 m
High-speed trolling at 12–16 knots with skirted lures or konaheads on wire leaders, or casting metal jigs to free-swimming fish.
Excellent white-fleshed fish with mild flavor; best served fresh as steaks or sashimi and must be iced immediately after capture.
Unmistakable by its vertical blue bars on a blue-green body and extremely elongated mackerel-like build; no other species closely resembles it.
